Full Scores:
The Flying House
“The Flying House” is a 1921 animated short by Winsor McCay, adapted from one of his own comic strips. My re-score is for violin quartet, and incorporates elements of extended technique to provide sound effects that are integrated into the musical score itself. While the score is largely melodic, you’ll also hear giants attack, water towers plummet, engines groan to life and more, all courtesy of the four string players.
How a Mosquito Operates
Another vintage cartoon, this time from Little Nemo creator Winsor McKay in 1912. The score was written for percussion quartet, and was performed live in concert with the movie running at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, by members of Talujon Percussion.
Allston Xmas
Another collaboration with Jared Vincenti, I scored this webseries about moving day in Boston, where everyone in the city’s lease ends on the same day and the whole city is forced to move at the same time. (This is a real thing that happens.)
Allston XMas: Take Your Shit (Brostep composition/arrangement by Blake Bost)
Allston XMas: Beer and Statistics
Allston XMas: Too Old For Allston
Danger Jones
The first score I ever wrote – and honestly, the first piece I ever finished. This was recorded in a classroom at University of Central Arkansas by a band that became known as the Army of Kind Strangers.
Deep Cover
The Army of Kind Strangers returns for a Masters’ thesis film from Boston director Jared Vincenti. This was recorded at UCA’s auditorium over a holiday break.
Contributions to Soundtracks:
The Funeral Clown Waltz Variations
Written for a 48-hour film festival short about a clown that works in a funeral home. This particular performance was performed live by Yuezhi Dou at University of Central Arkansas
Convey
A straightforward, unobtrusive piece written for a tech explainer video for a friend’s startup. She was going over some complicated things, so the music had to be bright enough to draw attention, but soft enough not to be distracting.
8-Bit Shanty
Written for Jared Vincenti’s film Day of Youth.
